NORTH KINGSTOWN – As far as the standings went, Tuesday’s game between the East Greenwich and North Kingstown field hockey teams didn’t mean much to either team. Both are headed to the playoffs – which could begin as early as Sunday – and there wasn’t anything to gain or lose with Tuesday’s result.

After the final whistle ended the game at 1-1, both teams headed to their bench in very different moods.

“They thought it was pretty great they tied,” said EG coach Deb McMullen, motion toward the celebrating Skippers. “We beat them 3-0 earlier at our place.”

It was a deciding bigger game for NK than the Avengers. It was Senior Night for the Skippers and they’re trying to show they are a legit contender, something the Avengers have already proved.

But tying a team they had previously whupped up on stung a little.
