Division II preliminary round
PROVIDENCE - The East Greenwich girls basketball team got it done on the defensive end Wednesday night and took care of Classical, 47-28.
The Avengers held the Purple to just nine points in the first 20 minutes on 3 of 27 shooting from the floor.
Kiley Powers led EG with 16 points and Leah Settipane had nine rebounds.
The Avenger move on to the quarterfinal round, where they will play Rogers - DII-South's No. 2 seed, who beat Scituate 66-43 - on Sunday at 5 p.m. at Rhode Island College. East Greenwich beat Rogers in the first matchup between the teams on Jan. 11, 57-47, but lost to the Vikings on the road on Feb. 15, 57-40.

Johnston 56, Narragansett 35
JOHNSTON - The Narragansett girls basketball team struggled on offense and lost to Johnston 56-35 Wednesday night.
Things were bad from the start, as the Mariners hit only 4 of 38 shots in the first half and trailed 29-8 at the break.
Maggie Salamone lead Narragansett with 18 points.
