Suspicious package temporarily shuts down Salt Pond Plaza

September 17, 2013

NARRAGANSETT – A bomb scare closed Salt Pond Plaza on Point Judith Road briefly Monday.
At 4 p.m. the Narragansett Fire Department responded to Game Stop for a report of a suspicious package left outside the store.
Capt. Joseph Conroy of the Narragansett Fire Department said a suitcase was left unattended on the sidewalk for an unknown period of time.
Emergency officials established a safety perimeter of 300 feet around the building and entrance to the shopping center was restricted, Conroy said in a statement.
The Rhode Island State Bomb Squad was notified and responded to the scene.
The bomb squad concluded that the package was not dangerous.
A number of businesses were closed for approximately one hour as emergency officials secured the area.
