Superior Court denies fast ferry opposition

February 27, 2014

Charles Donadio Jr., owner of Rhode Island Fast Ferry, has been attempting to apply for a licensing permit to establish a new route from Quonset to Block Island, but has met opposition over the past year from ferry services in the Port of Galilee, Narragansett, and in New Shoreham.

NORTH KINGSTOWN—Last Monday, Feb. 17, Superior Court Justice Patricia Hurst ruled in favor of Rhode Island Fast Ferry, owned by Charles Donadio Jr., after two companies which operate ferries out of Old Harbour on Block Island had appealed in October to be given intervener status in the Division of Public Utilities and Carriers’ (DPUC’s) license approval process.

Last summer, Donadio revealed his plans to establish a new fast ferry route from Quonset to Block Island, but has since met with significant opposition from the Block Island Ferry and the town of New Shoreham.
