Summer tourism looks promising

July 23, 2014

SOUTH KINGSTOWN - As summertime in Rhode Island nears the mid-way point, reports from local businesses and town employees show a promising outlook despite the lack of sun and warm weather thus far in 2014.
South Kingstown Town Beach is one of the local attractions that garnered increased attention this year, according to Teresa Murphy, director of leisure services in the town.
“We had a great year - the 2013-14 year that ended June 30,” said Murphy on Monday. “We had $15,000 exceeding our revenue. We had budgeted $110,000 and we brought in $125,000.”
Murphy attributes the success of the 2013-14 year mostly to the warm beach weather that was enjoyed by many during 2013 and the growing desire to avoid more crowded state and town beaches.
