NARRAGANSETT – Gov. Lincoln Chafee and other local officials attended a ceremony in Galilee at the town ramp on Friday afternoon to sign into legislation a bill making calamari Rhode Island’s official state appetizer.
Beneath a picturesque blue sky and excellent weather, the governor was joined by Department of Environmental Management (DEM) Director Janet Coit, Speaker of the House Nicholas Mattiello, State Sen. Susan Sosnowski, State Rep. Joseph McNamara, and Narragansett Town Council President James Callaghan, among others.
Gov. Chafee spoke with great pride about Rhode Island’s fishing industry and the benefit it has had on the state’s economy and job market.
