School committee opposes resolution on bus monitors

April 17, 2014

NARRAGANSETT – The school committee voted 3-1 Wednesday in opposition to a resolution that would allow school districts to hire bus monitors at their own discretion.

Currently, Rhode Island is the only state with a law requiring the use of bus monitors through an unfunded mandate.

Other districts, including South Kingstown, have supported the resolution, stating that the required bus monitors constitute a “significant expenditure” for each district.
