SC to find more ways to trim finances

May 22, 2012

EAST GREENWICH — So with all of the constant negotiations that went on over the last few weeks, negotiations that included additional trimmings of the proposed budget, the East Greenwich School Committee received some solace in the Town Council’s approval of a $175,000 allocation increase on Monday.

But, considering that Town Manager William Sequino requested a reduction of over $400,000 at the start of the talks, the School Committee still needs to find a way to take out $79,331 and bring it down to the final number of $33,611,573 – a figure that includes the $31,150,120 allocation, out-of-district tuition and state aid.

On Tuesday, Maryanne Crawford brought forth a plan to the members of the School Committee at Cole Middle School a list of reductions that will help reduce the number down to the needed level.
