Road race scheduled for Memorial Day creates conflict in council chambers

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – In what can only be described as a total commandeering of the town council meeting on Monday night, an estimated 20 supporters of the sanctity of Memorial Day made themselves known before the town council in protest of a town-approved road race scheduled on the somber national holiday around the same time as the parade.

Rachel Clough, a Peace Dale resident, military mom and originator of a petition with more than 150 signatures affixed, was the first to speak on the matter.
