RIDEM monitoring Hunt River watershed for high bacteria

NORTH KINGSTOWN—The Rhode Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM) updated local municipalities on May 29 about its designating of Pierce Brook in East Greenwich, a tributary of the Hunt River in North Kingstown, as a body of water impacted by higher levels of bacteria. The department will develop a plan for towns by which future actions can be taken to lower bacteria levels in Pierce Brook, as well as the Hunt River itself, which was designated as an area of concern in 2011.
