RICHMOND - The town of Richmond has recently taken several jumps in the way of technology and communication.
Robert Rock, the newly appointed town administrator, has already started his work making the link between the public and their town government stronger. As of Oct. 31, the town of Richmond has a new website, where a member of the public can âspend an hour looking through the features.â The front page of the website offers a new ânotify meâ initiative, where users can sign up to receive notifications and alerts via text message or email.
Rock also announced the creation of a Facebook page and a Twitter feed for the town, as well as the testing of âcode redâ call alerts that he records personally and sends to the residents of the town.
âYou are going to get pretty sick of hearing from me soon,â said Rock. âBut I think it is important to reach the people of the town.â
The council is also taking steps to reduce the amount of paper used through the use of iPads at the meetings.
âI remember my first meeting, the stack of paper was this high,â said B. Joseph Reddish, town council president, holding his hands about a foot apart from each other. Each member of the council now holds a stack of papers less than half of the size - and an iPad. The plans are to eliminate paper altogether.
