Richmond PD will be trained to administer Narcan

March 13, 2014

RICHMOND — The Richmond police force will soon be equipped with the antidote Narcan, or naloxone, a fast-acting nasal spray, to combat the increasing problem of drug overdoses in Rhode Island, many of them linked to heroin. Narcan acts to an overdose of opiates such as oxycodone, hydrocodone, fentanyl or heroin.

Police Chief Elwood Johnson told the Richmond Town Council on Thursday that his officers would receive training in the correct administration of Narcan over the next several months.
