RI Fast Ferry application hearings slated for 2015

June 23, 2014

WARWICK – Hearings in the application of Rhode Island Fast Ferry to operate a high-speed ferry service between Quonset and Block Island are now scheduled for January 2015.
“It’s full steam ahead again,” Charlie Donadio Jr., owner of Rhode Island Fast Ferry, said Thursday.
Parties involved agreed upon a procedural schedule Tuesday before the Rhode Island Division of Public Utilities and Carriers. The procedural schedule was previously halted when Intrastate Navigation and Block Island Express appealed to the Superior Court to gain intervener status in the DPUC’s license approval process for the proposed fast ferry.
Donadio first proposed the ferry service from Quonset to Old Harbor in Block Island last summer and was met with significant opposition from the Block Island Ferry, the town of New Shoreham, and the town of Narragansett – though the town of Narragansett later reversed its position.
