Reception ends cancer month

October 31, 2011

NORTH KINGSTOWN – Alicia’s Beauty Shop, 7442 Post Road, will conclude its observance of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month tomorrow with an open house from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The salon, which specializes in wigs, hats, scarves, accessories and counseling for women experiencing hair loss as a result of chemotherapy and other chronic diseases, will host a full day of presentations, product introductions, refreshments and camaraderie.

“We will be offering free consultations, recommendations, advice on wigs, hair cuts and up-dos,” says owner Cathy Leite, who will provide many of the services. She will be aided by cosmetologists Joanne Brouillette and Terri Petrarca.

“We’re also going to show how to have beautiful eyebrows [also lost during cancer treatment] with the signature brow kit from Bald Girls Do Lunch. This is a natural-looking, professional quality product with staying power to last all day.”

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., cosmetic applications and consultations will be offered by Melanie D. Giordano, an independent beauty consultant for Mary Kay. Darya Prassl, an independent distributor for Nu Skin Enterprises, a company specializing in anti-aging techniques through skin care and nutrition, will demonstrate the Galvanic Spa System from 2-4 p.m. This is a non-invasive face lift treatment that can be completed in five minutes.
