WAKEFIELD -- Laura A. Reale, the Westerly woman who ran a red light in Charlestown and killed 27-year-old Colin Foote with her car in May, was sentenced to eight years to serve at the Adult Correctional Institutions by Judge Edwin Gale today in Superior Court.
Gale chose not to give her the maximum of 10 years in prison for the felony charge of driving to endanger, death resulting. He did, however, also sentence her to two years of probation following her release.
During those years, Reale, 27, is to obtain substance abuse treatment and attend mental health counseling. She also must pay court costs and perform 200 hours of community service.
The sentencing came after the members of the Foote family, a close friend, and Colin's girlfriend spoke to Judge Gale. Emotions ran high as they spoke, with members of both the Reale and Foote family wiping away tears, especially during a video showing images of Colin's life.View more articles in:
