This weekend all across South County, towns are celebrating the start of the holiday season with visits from Santa and tree lighting ceremonies. Inside today's paper we have what events are taking place in Narragansett and South Kingstown.

The Special Commission on Reapportionment met Thursday at the South Kingstown High School during one of the final public hearings before it finalizes its plan to reconfigure the district lines to reflect population changes. At the meeting, several South County leaders said what they hoped the outcome of the new districts would be.

This week the state became embroiled when Governor Chafee referred to the Christmas tree as a holiday tree. In today's opinion section, many readers did not hold back on how they view the holiday drama.
