CHARLESTOWN — In two-hour exchange, the town council and town residents questioned Kenneth J. Burke, P.E., General Manager of the Rhode Island Water Resources Board (RIWRB) about a potential new public water supply that would be located near Cross Mills.
Burke had come to the meeting to talk about the potential water source his agency had identified in Charlestown, to inform the town that tax-exempt bonds were available to purchase the land for water sources like this one, and to explain his agency’s mission, which he said was to preserve water supplies for future generations.
Burke’s backstory also included performing aquifer test borings on the site and the initiation of a purchase and sale agreement for the acreage with the land owner, Frank Glista, and his family.
