EAST GREENWICH — The Post Office Cafe is expected to reopen early next year after the Town Council granted its owners the necessary licenses Monday night.
Michael Marra, executor of the estate of his brother Stephen Marra, owner of Marra Restaurant Group, said he anticipates reopening the 11 Main St. restaurant under a new format in the first quarter of 2012. He said the restaurant, which closed earlier this year after Marra Restaurant Group went into receivership, will undergo renovations and serve “gourmet burgers and light fare” when it reopens.
Stephen Marra died in August.
The council unanimously voted to reinstate the alcoholic beverage license for the Post Office Cafe and approve the transfer from the estate to the reorganized Post Office Cafe Inc., owned by the brothers' parents, Michael and Edith Marra, once the restaurant is released from receivership by Kent County Superior Court. John Savage is the court-appointed receiver for the company's assets.
Post Office Cafe and The Grille on Main, 50 Main St., also part of the Marras' holdings, both had their alcohol beverage licenses renewed by the council through Dec. 1, 2012. The Grille on Main was also granted extended hours on New Year's Eve.
