NARRAGANSETT – During a public hearing on the school and town budgets Monday, Superintendent Katherine Sipala explained to the town council why the school committee has a $500,000 surplus.
The town council previously questioned whether the school committee could access the surplus instead of requesting $357,000 from the town to cover half of the $720,000 the school committee is being asked to contribute to fund the town’s annual required contribution, or ARC, for its pension system.
