East Greenwich, RI - Our Lady of Mercy School, 55 Fourth Avenue, East Greenwich, is hosting Open House and Registration for incoming students for the 2011-12 Academic Year on Sunday, January 30 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Offering Pre-K - 5, Middle School 6-8, and all-day kindergarten, OLM School is fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. OLM offers a challenging curriculum with multiple enrichment opportunities like Spanish for Grades 1-8, Computers Classes for all grades, Robotics, Drama, Band, Yearbook, Mock Trial, CAL Sports, Student Council and after school clubs. OLM Students are also exposed to multiple service opportunities in the community, developing core values and compassion while incorporating the schoolâ€™s motto â€ś.... that mercy may flourish.â€ť Before and after-school care are available, as well as multiple scheduling options for Pre-K. Bus service is available to those students residing in East Greenwich, West Warwick and parts of Warwick. Families who are interested in visiting while school is in session are also welcome to attend OLMâ€™s Classroom Visit Day on Wednesday, February 2 from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
The Open House is the first of many activities being held at OLM School during the week of January 30 â€“ February 4, in celebration of Catholic Schoolsâ€™ Week, which is held nationally each year. In addition, the Annual OLM Book Fair will be held in the schoolâ€™s library all week long, beginning on Sunday, January 30. Other events during the week will involve â€śPrayer Partner Activitiesâ€ť, highlighted by projects and discussions based on the theme of Catholic Schools Week -- â€śA+ for America; Catholic Schoolsâ€ť. On several occasions throughout the school year, students in the older grades are paired with children in the lower grades and they work together on various prayer-related activities. It provides a wonderful mentoring opportunity for students of all ages. Each day of Catholic Schools week at OLM features as special activity as well. Monday, January 31 is â€śPajama Dayâ€ť; Tuesday is â€śFavorite Sports Teamâ€ť day, where students will be able to wear the colors and apparel of their favorite sports team. Also on that day, students in Grades K-5 will go to Kingston Bowl for a bowling field trip. Middle Schoolers will have a skating field trip to Providence later in the month. Wednesday is â€śClassroom Visit Dayâ€ť and on Thursday, February 3, students will celebrate â€śCrazy Hat/Hair Day.â€ť Friday, February 4, is full of activities for the entire OLM Community. First Friday Mass will be held at 9:00 a.m. in OLM Church. Later a â€śTeacher Appreciation Luncheonâ€ť, hosted by the Parent Teacher Group, will be held. And finally on Friday, the school hosts its annual Ice Cream social, open only to current OLM School families. An annual favorite among the students, they will enjoy ice cream, crafts, dancing and games during two sessions
