WEST WARWICKâOrdinances governing the weight limit allowed on the Natick Bridge on East Avenue, one of the main thoroughfares connecting West Warwick and Warwick, are in place. The bridge was reopened after being closed since the March floods, but a weight limit of three tons was set.
Police Chief Col. Paul Villa talked with state police and municipal court judge, John Brunero, Jr. to determine what could be done to enforce the limits.
Brunero requested that ordinances be passed, which can be removed once a new bridge is constructed.
With the ordinances in place violations can now be heard in the municipal court.
The two ordinances prohibit vehicles of greater than two axles from crossing the bridge and also set the weight limit at three tons.
A vehicleâs weight is determined by the âgross vehicle weightâ listed on the registration, Villa said, indicating that the largest vehicle able to cross the bridge is probably a light pickup.
