August 21, 2014

NORTH KINGSTOWN—At its Aug. 4 meeting, the North Kingstown Town Council discussed the possibility of moving the Old Towne House from its present site on Brown Street to Wilson Park, and idea which was ultimately deemed too costly.
“I had run some numbers and talked to contractors, but the cost was relatively high, to the point it was a wash in moving it or elevating it at its present location,” said Director of Public Works Phil Bergeron on Wednesday.
Now, the town is looking to install the foundation and make the building weather tight before winter arrives. Because the structure currently sits in a flood zone, the foundation must be bring the town house six feet about sea level.
