NORTH KINGSTOWN – A North Kingstown resident was killed when the SUV he was driving rolled over on Tower Hill Road in front of the First Church of Christ Scientist, 55 Tower Hill Road, North Kingstown Tuesday night.
The driver of the vehicle, James Gault, 44, was found unresponsive and it’s unknown at this time if he was wearing a seatbelt or not. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.
Upon arrival of emergency personnel, the vehicle was on its side and had come to rest between the church parking lot and Tower Hill Road. It was observed that before coming to rest it had hit a portion of trees and part of a stone wall lining the parking lot.
“The Jaws of Life was needed,” North Kingstown Fire Deputy Chief Phil Aldrich said. “It was a very extensive extrication taking almost half an hour to release the male. He was transported to Kent County Hospital where he was later pronounced dead,”
Weather conditions at the time of the accident were heavy wind-swept rain. Police, however, won’t confirm or deny if that contributed to the accident, since it’s still under investigation pending an accident reconstruction.
