NK Fire Department christens new rescue vessel

June 12, 2014

NORTH KINGSTOWN—On a bright, warm morning this past Saturday, the North Kingstown Fire Department gathered at Allen Harbor Marina to christen the newest member of its amphibious fleet; the Marine 5 fireboat.
The 37-foot ‘moose’ jet propulsion vessel boasts myriad technologies which will assist firefighters in responding to marine incidents, including compressed-air bottles, a deck monitoring system which draws water from the bay to fight fires, and side and bottom sonar in order to find sunken wrecks or individuals.
North Kingstown Fire Chief Fenwick Gardiner Jr. spoke prior to the champagne bottle striking Marine 5’s bow, thanking numerous members of the department, town and marina staff.
