NARRAGANSETT - The “Narragansett Rune Stone”, a seven-foot long sandstone bearing mysterious symbols that some believe to be Runic characters, currently lies dormant at the URI Graduate School of Oceanography (GSO) following revelations that the necessary tests that would determine the inscription’s origins would require damaging the stone.
The stone, which was stolen from it’s resting place and recovered by the DEM in April, was sent to the GSO for safe-keeping and testing. Unfortunately for those interested in the stone and it’s inscription, which includes the “hooked X,” a symbol believed by some to be associated with the Knight’s Templar, testing has been deemed impossible.
