NARRAGANSETT - The âNarragansett Rune Stoneâ, a seven-foot long sandstone bearing mysterious symbols that some believe to be Runic characters, currently lies dormant at the URI Graduate School of Oceanography (GSO) following revelations that the necessary tests that would determine the inscriptionâs origins would require damaging the stone.
The stone, which was stolen from itâs resting place and recovered by the DEM in April, was sent to the GSO for safe-keeping and testing. Unfortunately for those interested in the stone and itâs inscription, which includes the âhooked X,â a symbol believed by some to be associated with the Knightâs Templar, testing has been deemed impossible.
