NARRAGANSETT--Aran Flaherty, Katia Konopelko, Morgan D'Ambra, Emma Landy, Brendan Flaherty, Natalie Landy, and Charlotte D'Ambra of Narragansett Elementary School have been practicing once a week in Providence for Festival Ballet's The Nutcracker. And while this is a first time for many of the children, Aran said she had danced before.
"The director and his assistants are great! This is the best show yet," she said. The children's heads all agreed, eager to say something good about their director while loving every moment of being asked questions. These children, some as young as seven who auditioned in September, and others from across the state will dance in the roles of angels, party children, candy dolls, mice, soldiers, and Russian dancers. Hundreds of children applied for roles in the show and 100 were accepted. The children will travel to Providence every day the week before the show for practice. Each child is slotted to perform in two of Festival's Nutcracker shows.
Lisa D'Ambra described her children's love of the show. "They love it. It's a very exciting time, especially now right before the show," she said. Her daughter Morgan takes lessons in Providence at Festival Ballet and she also dances for another show in North Kingstown whose show will be this weekend.
