COVENTRY – Tuesday’s Division I volleyball match between the Mount Saint Charles Mounties and Coventry Oakers was probably the most highly anticipated of the season.

The two shared unblemished records at 11-0 in league play, and though this was a non-league contest, the intensity was evident as the battle lines had been drawn out in this game that would produce only one team left in Rhode Island undefeated.

Riding the play of senior Kelsey Lace (13 kills), the Huskies charged past Coventry in three straight games (25-20, 25-19, 25-23) to lay claim as the top team in Rhode Island, for now.

The Oakers were proud owners of the title for most of the season, but have recently suffered a loss to Ponaganset at the Koch Eye a week ago and were flat Monday night in a lackluster win over North Kingstown.
