Mixed-use development discussions still ongoing

EAST GREENWICH — The fate of the latest proposal incarnation of a mixed-use Greenwich Boulevard development may hinge on a radius.

The Planning Board heard 3.5 hours of testimony last Wednesday from representatives of local developer Joseph N. Zenga, who is seeking a comprehensive permit to develop 40 townhouse units, including 10 to be designated as affordable housing, off Greenwich Boulevard and behind East Greenwich American Legion Post 15 down to the Amtrak rail line near Greenwich Cove.

The board did not make a decision on the permit, and chairman Bradford Bishop said the complexity of the plan would require at least one more hearing before a vote could be taken. About a dozen nearby residents attended the hearing, but did not have the opportunity to address the board.

Great, just what we need, more houses that if they don't sell will probably turn into lower income rental units, just what Joe Zenga has made his money from. Be careful, that's what he has been planning right from the start. Greene Street still has several units for sale and they are in a convenient location. Here, we have the scenic railroad tracks and the sounds from the Legion, just where I would want to move to. It seems like 10 pounds of dirt in a five pound bag. Go luck to the nearby residents. I guess that's what happens when you are in the good ole boys club. I thought EG was exempt, I guess not. Let's sell our soul to the devil just to get that minimum housing.
