NARRAGANSETT â€” Everybodyâ€™s knuckles were white by the end of Friday nightâ€™s baseball battle at Sprague Field, and it wasnâ€™t just because of the cold weather. The Division II - South matchup between Narragansett and Westerly was long anticipated after their last exciting encounter at McCoy Stadium in 2013. The Mariners knocked Westerly out of the state semifinals and thereâ€™s no question that the Bulldogs were looking to take back a little of their pride on Friday night. It didnâ€™t happen.
â€śI credit Kullen McGill,â€ť coach Keith Vellone said postgame. â€śHe pitched us out of some jams in the early innings, he bared down defensively. We didnâ€™t play our best defense tonight and we needed to in order to beat this team, so he really picked us up.â€ť
