The picture that is the upcoming election season is getting a little clearer within East Greenwich.
A total of 17 candidates going for either the Town Council or the School Committee have officially turned in the required number of signatures prior to last Friday’s deadline in order to be eligible to be on the November ballot.Of those 17 individuals, nine of them are vying for the five available seats on the Town Council. As previously reported in The Pendulum, Town Council President – and lone incumbent – Michael Isaacs is going for his sixth and final term on the Council. Isaacs will be up against fellow Republicans Robert Bolton, Suzanne McGee Cienki, Edward Field, Sean Todd and Gene Dumas.
Because there are six Republicans going for Town Council, there will be a primary election to be held on Sept. 9 where five of them will move on to the Nov. 3 general election, according to Elaine Vespia of the Board of Canvassers for East Greenwich. Vespia adds that all five polling locations – Hanaford, Cole, Swift, Frenchtown and East Greenwich High School – will be open on Sept. 9.
