COVENTRY—All around the state, private gardens will open to the public as part of the 2011 Gardening with the Masters Tour and for Coventry residents one garden is right around the corner.
Local University of Rhode Island (URI) Master Gardeners Peggy and Art Buttenbaum, of Coventry, will open up their garden again to be a part of the tour.
Serving as chairpersons of the 2011 Garden Tour Planning Committee, the Buttenbaums have worked with other Master Gardeners to prepare for the fifth biennial tour.
For the tour, there will be over 32 gardens open to the public.
Since 2009, when the Buttenbaums last opened their garden up for the tour, they have made some additions.
They added an additional patio and next to it a water garden, complete with flowering water lilies and goldfish can be seen fish swimming below the water’s surface.
Art Buttenbaum pointed out that all the gardens on the tour are built and maintained by the Master Gardeners themselves and they don’t pay someone else to put the plants in or maintain them.
Locally, Hattoy’s Nursery and Garden Center, 315 Blackrock Rd., is selling tickets to the tour.
The 2011 Gardening with the Masters Tour is this Saturday and Sunday, July 16 and 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Tickets are $15.
