Local coach sets winning example

PAWTUCKET — If student track athletes in the Chariho district need some inspiration, they need look no further than the assistant coach of the girls’ varsity team. Katie Moulton, of Providence, made perfect use of a beautiful Sunday morning this past weekend by winning as the first female finisher in the half marathon of the 2014 Navigant Credit Union Running Festival. Moulton, 31, not only placed first for the women, but fifth overall out of 529 participants in the half marathon. With an average mile pace of 6:21, Moulton competed the race in 1:21:20, roughly nine minutes after her husband, Patrick, who came in first for the men and in the event overall. Patrick Moulton’s final time was 1:12:21 with an average mile pace of 5:31.
