Knights shut out Hope

October 1, 2011

WEST GREENWICH - The Exeter-West Greenwich football team scored on its first drive of the game, took advantage of a botched Hope punt and scored on its second possession of the game and the defense did the rest in a 26-0 win Saturday afternoon.
Playing on an incredibly sloppy field, the Knights dominated the line on both sides of the ball. While the offense didn't put up the numbers many have been accustomed to seeing in the past - EWG had 195 yards rushing in the game - the defense never let Hope challenge the end zone. The Knights held Hope to -18 yards rushing and -2 yards passing. the Blue Wave only had six first downs and four came on their final drive of the game.
Dwight Anderson capped a six-play, 27-yard drive with a seven-yard run on the Knights' first drive and after a bad snap on a Hope punt gave EWG the ball on the Hope 3, Anderson scored again to put the Knights up 12-0 with 3:11 left in the first quarter
Exeter didn't score again until right before the half when Andrew LaBrie snatched Jacob Hornoff's 22-yard pass out of the air. Anderson's conversion gave the Knights a 20-0 lead at halftime. Dustin Van Luven had the final score for EWG, a pretty 20-yard run 2:06 into the second half.
