Exeter-West Greenwick's Kara Shaw scored with 7:57 left to play, giving the Knights' a 2-1 win over Lincoln in the Division II Girls Soccer Championship Match.
The title is the first in EWG girls soccer history.
EWG trailed Lincoln - Division II's top defensive team - 1-0 after a goal early in the first half and went into halftime down by the same score.
Six minutes into the second, the Knights' Cara Caliri put one in the back of the net to tie things at one.
The remainder of the game was uneventful, as teams tried to earn clean chances but both defenses played strong. With 8:30 left to play, EWG's Allisa Georgio took a pass on the left side and looked ready to give the Knights the lead, but the normally dead-on ball-striker mis-kicked the shot with her left foot - her weak side - and the shot went wide right. Afterward, Georgio said she was "so embarrassed," but it was only a hiccup for the high-scoring sophomore and the Knights.
Thirty seconds later, Georgio earned a reprieve when teammate Kara Shaw buried one in off the right post, giving the Knights a 2-1 lead they held on to.
