NORTH KINGSTOWN—On Tuesday evening, the North Kingstown School Committee held a brief work session to discuss a number of administrative items.
Director of Administrative Services Mary King first suggested the potential of creating a report on the roofs of all the school system’s buildings.
“The goal I had here is we could have some really good solid reports so we could plan for the decline of roofs in the buildings,” said King. “Keeping children warm, safe and dry, that is what we are hoping for.”
“This is not a contractor saying you need to fix your roof, [but] an independent roof analysis,” she added. “The more information the better, and the facilities sub-committee was definitely in favor of this.”
Committee members welcomed the potential information that such a study would provide the school system.
“We have had so many roof situations over the last few years in this district, [some] where we’ve had to get children out quickly,” said committee member Lynda Avanzato. “I want to recognize this. It is a safety issue, and I want to continue along this path.”
The motion to have such a study conduct passed five to one, with committee member William Mudge voting nay.
