COVENTRY—The Paine House Museum in Coventry has been receiving some international attention during their summer-long ghost hunts as a celebrity guest made an appearance this weekend.

On July 9, Joe Chin, of Ghost Hunters International on the SyFy channel, made a surprise visit to the Paine House to the delight of many ghost hunting attendees.

“Everyone was excited when they got there,” said Norma Smith, the president of the Western Rhode Island Civic Historical Society. “As a matter of fact, I didn’t tell a couple of the members either and when one of the girls saw him, the look on her face was [shock].”

Smith was asked to keep Chin’s appearance quiet since they did not want a mob of people.

“They wanted a night of investigation without a lot of distraction,” said Smith.

She explained that the group who is currently conducting the summer-long investigations, RISEUP Paranormal, of Rhode Island and Connecticut, had connections with Chin and asked him to attend.

“They are putting their findings together now,” said Smith. “They have played a couple clips but are compiling information for the end.”

DeCosta said that Chin’s first experience at the Paine House “lived up to everything he expected.”
