'Jammie Grammie' collecting PJs for area children

November 26, 2010

If you're looking to give back to your community this holiday season, a retired Charlestown reverend who calls herself the "Jammie Grammie" might be able to help.

The Jammie Grammie, also known as Rev. Shirley E. Anderson, was apparently sent into retirement last year with a ready-made outreach project from her congregation. As the Jammie Grammie, she gathered 275 sets of pajamas for children in 2009. Those clothes were distributed through two Connecticut-based agencies.

And this year, Anderson is determined to gather 1,000 sets of pajamas. They will be distributed through the River Front Day Care Center in Groton, the Pawcatuck Community Center, and the Rhode Island Center Assisting those in Need (RICAN).
