Dr. Michelle Humbyrd takes over as assistant superintendent this month.

NORTH KINGSTOWN – A North Kingstown resident and an educator for over 34 years, Dr. Michele Humbyrd has always aspired to become an education administrator.

She’ll have that chance when she begins her duties as the new North Kingstown Assistant Superintendent this month.

Appointed last week by the NK School Committee to replace Dr. Philip Auger, who was promoted from assistant superintendent to superintendent this summer, Humbyrd will begin her new position on Nov. 21 and will be responsible for teaching and learning.

Humbyrd has been the principal at Curtis Corner Middle School in South Kingstown since 2003. Prior to that, she was a music teacher and assistant principal at Coventry Middle School as well as a music teacher at Talbot Middle School in Fall River, Mass. and an instructor at Rhode Island College.

She received a Bachelor of Music from Barrington College, a Master of Arts in teaching from Rhode Island College and her doctorate in 2007 from Johnson and Wales University.
