March 21, 2014

Housing authorities in Rhode Island received $12.6 million in grant funding Wednesday from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

HUD awarded $1.8 billion in grants to public housing authorities in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands to make large-scale improvements to the nation’s 1.1 million public housing units.

Of the $12.6 million Rhode Island received, the majority, $3.7 million, was allocated to the Providence Housing Authority.
