HOPKINTON -- The Town Council voted unanimously at the May 2 meeting to maintain the services of Bacon & Company LLC to perform the Hopkinton's financial audits for the next three years.
Town Manager William McGarry said he received a report on the matter from the town treasurer, who received quotes from two accounting firms. And the low bid for all three years, he said, was from Bacon & Company.
The firm offered its services for $22,500 for 2011 with the option for $23,000 for 2012 and $23,500 for 2013. There was about an $8,000 difference – or a “good chunk of change,” according to President Thompson – over the three years between the firm and its opposing bidder.
The only issue the treasurer looked into was whether or not there would be a problem with taking on Bacon & Company again because its been the town's choice firm for several years. The state Auditor's Office apparently gave it the OK because the town went out to bid for the services.
Councilor Capalbo said she was glad that the matter was looked into. Even though the firm has served the town well, she said, it was good to know that the personnel has been rotated and the same person isn't auditing Hopkinton every year.View more articles in:
