WEST WARWICKâCome Saturday afternoon, participants in the Hope Village Stroll will walk through West Warwick to hear about the history of the village.
Donald Carpenter, a member of the Pawtuxet Valley Historical and Preservation Society and local historian, will lead the tour.
Carpenter has researched the history of the area and into Coventry and Hope, according to a press release dated Sept. 7.
âHe will talk about what used to be there and what is there today. Donald has pictures of âway back whenâ when the village was first started, important buildings, architecture and the history of the people here,â said Maureen Delovio, the head of the reference department at the West Warwick Public Library.
Carpenter will show his personal file of photos from the valley. The tour will stop at each place, and he will talk about the locationâs history and answer any questions.
Carpenter is a native West Warwick resident and has lived there his whole life, according to Delovio.
The tour will begin at the Hope Mill on Route 116 at 1 p.m. The group will walk through to Hope Village and circle back to where they began. Those participating will meet at 1 p.m. and the tour will conclude at roughly 2:30 p.m. Admission is free. To register, the library can be contacted at 828-3750, extension 4.
