SOUTH KINGSTOWN – It will be all cameras, lights and action in South Kingstown for three days in May after the town council authorized the temporary use of Bayfield Farm by the movie production company, Moonrise Kingdom at Monday night’s town council meeting.
Amidst heated debate that left some councilors disgruntled, the council approved the filming on the land with a 3-2 vote with councilwoman Kathleen Fogarty and Mary Eddy dissenting.
The latest Wes Anderson Film, Moonrise Kingdom will film a few scenes on May 9 and 10 at Bayfield Farm, located off Camp Fuller in Matunuck. The movie crew will set up the first week of May and use the land to film a scene of a boy scout camp. The movie company budgeted over $50,000 for the three day filming.
Because Bayfield Farm is a South Kingstown Land Trust preserved open space land and is subject is a conservation easement, Moonrise Kingdom sought approval by the town council, the Land Trust, and the Coastal Resources Management Council to use the land. The conservation easement allows the land to be used only for agricultural or conservation purposes unless the council approves a waiver.
