WEST WARWICK— After five weeks of competing against 333 other high schools throughout the country, West Warwick High School placed first in Sodexo’s Healthy High School Challenge, securing them a $5,000 prize.
This event is held annually by Sodexo to “get high school students thinking about making healthy food choices.”
During this competition, students were asked to purchase healthy foods through their Sodexo food provider to earn points for their school.
Each week, a specific item was chosen as the “double point item,” and if students purchased that type of food, they got just that — double points.
The first week of the challenge, various events were held at each participating high school to show off their school spirit.
At West Warwick High School, who won the grand prize, students in the junior class took it upon themselves to dress as vegetables during a pep rally and create a video about the importance of eating healthy.
