Grant to fund new facility in Galilee

October 27, 2011

NARRAGANSETT—The town council accepted a grant last week for the design and construction of a multi-jurisdictional port facility in Galilee. The grant, totaling $600,000, has been issued by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through their Port Security Grant Program (PSGP).

“[The application process] was done by myself and [Town Engineer] Jeff Ceasrine, and this is the second year we’ve applied for this grant,” said NPD Chief Dean Hoxsie. “With the investment we have in boats and mooring programs in Galilee, we need a facility to house our assets.”

The funds will be used to construct a three-bay garage building in Galilee which will house boats and equipment for a number of organizations, including the Coast Guard and other federal and state agencies. The town will also use the facility.

The structure will also contain a multi-purpose meeting room for training exercises and presentations by federal, state, and local agencies. These groups will be able to use the facility as a base for critical response operations that may be carried out in the area due to natural disasters or terrorist attacks.
