Grand slams send Chariho to victory

April 24, 2014

Senior Emily Hollister hit the first home run in Tuesday’s game against Woonsocket, bringing the Chargers ahead in what would be their third win of the season.

WOOD RIVER JUNCTION — The Chariho fastpitch softball team burst out of the dugout and rushed home plate to welcome teammate Emily Hollister after she rounded the bases. The senior had just nailed a home run on a full count in the Tuesday’s second inning to put the Chargers on the scoreboard with Woonsocket. The Chariho team was down by two after the Villa Novans scored runs off an error in the first, but as the final score would indicate, the Charger girls were just warming up.

“We were pretty solid defensively,” said coach Dave Petrocelli after Tuesday’s 8-2 triumph at Chariho High School. “We got good pitching from [sophomore] Kailee Morgan and [senior] India O’Neil and that’s something we needed. We needed a win today.”
