EAST GREENWICH – Spoiler alert: The following story contains graphic violence; computer programmed graphic designs, that is.
For 48 hours last weekend, starting Friday, one of three New England Institute of Technology campuses on Division Road became a host site for the 2012 Global Game Jam, a two-day international gamer event. Nine teams in East Greenwich – along with 244 ‘jam’ sites worldwide, were given a certain theme and had two days to produce an original video game based on that theme, playable online all over the world by Sunday afternoon.
It was the third such event, but the first ever held in Rhode Island. Burgeoning in popularity, in 2011 alone, more than 1,500 games have been created by more than 65,000 people in 44 countries.
