Gentle, fleecy alpacas a sheer delight

A pair of baby alpacas, born a day apart at Shadow Pines Farm on Purgatory Road, get to know each other.

In fact, consult an entire herd because there is nothing more soothing that leaning against a fence watching a group of these fluffy, colorful creatures silently grazing in a meadow.

You can find such a holistic medical team with its special remedy at Shadow Pines Farm on Purgatory Road. It is Bob and Vivian Ball’s nine-acre retirement farm and visiting is a sensory delight.

The friendly animals, attired in a palette of dark black, rich brown, lavender-gray, fawn, cream and a host of other subtle shades, are cottony soft and agreeable to being petted.

On a recent visit there was the added enticement of seeing a pair of two-week-old babies in action; one was born on a Friday and the other the following day, in the middle of an open house.
