WEST WARWICKâThe town council unanimously voted to approve the appointment of a full-time town planner, the only new position in the town managerâs proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
Town Planner Frederick Presley has been serving as part-time town planner for about one year according to the town manager.
Councilman David Gosselin told the council that people had been asking him when West Warwick was going to have a full-time town planner.
Town Manager James Thomas, who recommended Presley to the council, told them that Presley, if the vote was in the affirmative, would start work this Monday, April 25.
The vote to appoint Presley to the position of full-time town planner was unanimous, with all five council members present.
In a memo to the town council Thomas writes that Presley has accepted the salary and benefit package outlined in Thomasâ proposed FY12 budget.
Thomas writes, âHe understands his salary is $65,000 per year, his medical co-payment for insurance is 15 [percent] of the premium and that he will not be accumulating sick leave.â
In an email to the town council Thomas also explained that not refilling the position of Assistant to the Town Manager in December or the Town Managerâs Executive Secretary position in January had given the town enough funds to start the positing in the current fiscal year.
âThis is the right decision at this time and I am recommending this full-time appointment without reservation,â Thomas wrote.
