Town Council accepted a $3,500 grant from the Friends of Canonchet Farm. Thomas Fourtier, President of the organization, recently wrote a letter and submitted the grant proposal to the town in order to conduct a wetland survey of the Canonchet Farm property.
The survey will be conducted by the Southern Rhode Island Conservation District and would be, according to Fourtier, the necessary step before accurately planning the routes or designing boardwalks and bridges. Currently, there is no official map of the property's wetlands and Fourtier sees the donation as a means of cooperating with the town. "Ultimately the survey would be required to receive permission from various governmental agencies to proceed.
